Impedance-based Adaptive Subsynchronous Oscillation Damping Controller
Subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) is one of the common issues that occur in wind farms worldwide. This paper introduces a subsynchronous damping controller connected in parallel at a wind farm without adjusting wind parameters to tackle SSO issues in a DFIG (doubly fed induction generator) integrated system. Beyond the conventional voltage control loop, an additional current loop is implemented so that the current signal can be utilized when the voltage SSO component is hardly detectable. Moreover, we propose an adaptive parameter tuning algorithm to significantly improve performance under varying SSO frequency conditions in real-world applications. The method is validated through electromagnetic transient simulations and has demonstrated better performance compared to the constant parameter SDC.
