Design of a 100 kW SPMSM for Podded Propulsion and Multiphysics Analysis of Fault Operating Simulation
This paper presents the design of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) for a podded propulsion system (PPS) operating below the sea surface. A six-phase winding configuration is used to ensure fault operation. Design considerations for the proposed SPMSM include the outer diameter-to-stack length ratio and the reduction of AC copper loss. Additionally, comparisons of radiated noise and temperature rise under both normal and fault operating conditions were conducted.
