A Radial Force Mode Control in IPMSM Using Multi-Phase Motor
Characteristics of lower vibration and lower acoustic noise are required in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) which are used in Electric Vehicles (EVs), and so on. The vibration and acoustic noise in PMSMs are mainly occurred from the radial force, which is a radial component of electromagnetic forces on the stator teeth. A resonance causes significant vibrations when the radial force mode coincides with the stator natural mode. Then, this paper proposes a radial force control technique using a multi-phase motor with multiple H-bridge inverter to change the radial force modes. FEA shows an effectiveness of the proposed radial force control method.
