Fault Ride-Through Strategy of LCC-MMC Series Hybrid HVDC Transmission System for Offshore Wind Farms
To facilitate the development and transmission of 10 GW-level offshore wind power, the hybrid HVDC transmission topology combining line commutated converters (LCC) with modular multilevel converters (MMC) in series offers a promising approach. This paper first introduces the LCC-MMC topology and overall control strategy of the LCC-MMC series hybrid transmission system. Then, it discusses the fault characteristics and fault ride-through strategies for three typical faults. Finally, the applicability of the LCC-MMC series system for delivering offshore wind power is verified through PSCAD/EMTDC simulations.
