Mid/Long-Term Energy Management for Zero-Carbon Buildings Considering Weather Conditions and Energy Use Schedule

The global share of carbon emissions of buildings cannot be ignored, and zero-carbon building (ZCB) has been vigorously promoted in the building industry due to their ability to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In this paper, a mid/long-term energy management method for ZCB is proposed by considering the fluctuation of photovoltaic (PV) caused by weather's change as well as ZCB's energy use schedule on a mid/long-term time scale of one week. Firstly, one year's PV generation and load data of ZCB are clustered and divided into heating, cooling and transition seasons using the Elbow Method and Silhouette Coefficient Method, then a week's PV generation and load data are selected from the cooling season. Furthermore, by controlling the operation status of the battery energy storage systems (BESS) and the air conditioning (A/C) containing the hot water storage tank (HWST), an energy optimization model with the goal of minimizing the power purchase from external grid is established. Simulation results show that this energy management method can meet the operation's reliability, economy, and zero-carbon demand of ZCB while adapting to changes of ZCB's energy demand.
