Structural Study of IPMSMs Achieving Both High Torque and Wide Constant Power Operating Range
Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) are widely used for various industrial applications, such as electric vehicles and compressor drives, that require a wide output range. This range depends on the motor parameters. In this study, to achieve both high torque at low speeds and a wide output range, an increased amount of magnets in the motor is investigated. In addition, a rotor structure is developed in which the amount of magnets is optimized to be sufficient for the torque at the driving point. Furthermore, the rotor structure is investigated to improve the torque ripple.
