A Hybrid Modulation Strategy and Loss Modeling of Si/SiC Seven-Level Converter for Aircraft Electric Propulsion

This paper investigates the application of seven-level Active Neutral Point Clamped with H-bridge (7L-ANPC-H) converters in aircraft electric propulsion systems. It provides a detailed analysis of its operating modes and modulation principles, based on this, a hybrid modulation strategy is proposed to reduce losses and a detailed loss model for the converter topology is also established. The evaluation based on loss model demonstrates that the 7L converter topology, utilizing Si-IGBT and SiC-MOSFET can achieve an efficiency of over 97%., surpassing traditional systems. It shows that the application of hybrid multi-level converters can bring significant advantages to electric propulsion aviation.
