Optimisation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Electric Vehicles
A thorough performance optimisation on the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) for electric vehicles is accomplished in this paper, particularly focusing on the optimisation on the rotor topology of the IPMSM. An 8-pole 72-slot double-V-shaped IPMSM is selected as a typical example of electric vehicle driving machine, with which the impact on the torque by virtue of rotor topology is modeled and analyzed first. Then the genetic algorithm (GA) is used to optimise torque characteristics. By comparing the optimised torque and electromagnetic (EM) characteristics with the original scheme, the optimised IPMSM is proved to be effective. As demonstrated by the comparative results, the steady-state torque of the optimised IPMSM rotor can be increased by 0.08% and the area with IPMSM efficiency above 98% has increased by 6.1% when the same amount of permanent magnet material is used. Therefore, this paper provides a practical optimised machine for the application of electrical vehicles.
