An Investigation on the International Standardization for the Grid Integration of Hydrogen Production and Storage Systems
The global ambition for a “zero-carbon economy” necessitates a rapid transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, particularly hydrogen. This paper examines the role of water electrolysis in hydrogen production, highlighting its advantages and the associated technologies. Additionally, it addresses the integration of Hydrogen Production and Storage Systems (HPSS) into the power grid, which is essential for energy balancing as the penetration of renewable energy sources increases. The paper further investigates the current status of international standardization efforts by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in related fields, which are crucial for the market and technological alignment of hydrogen energy. It proposes a strategic plan for China to actively participate in international standardization, with the goal of establishing core standards for the grid integration and interactive operation of HPSS. This paper also analyzes the main technical content of core standards such as peak shaving, providing a reference for future standardization efforts. Ultimately, this paper aims to contribute to the relevant field within the global energy transition and sustainable development by fostering international cooperation and standardization.
