An Energy-Saving Strategy for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors System

Permanent magnet synchronous motors are extensively utilized across various industries due to their superior energy efficiency. The bus voltage is typically kept constant, determined by the motor's maximum speed. However, in many instances, the motor operates at low to medium speeds, which leads to decreased efficiency. This paper proposes a new energy-saving strategy to address this issue and improve motor efficiency. The approach involves inserting a dual active bridge converter between the bus voltage and the motor, enabling dynamic adjustment of the bus voltage based on real-time motor speed monitoring. To verify the proposed control strategy's effectiveness, an energy-saving model is developed and analyzed using MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results show a significant reduction in energy consumption at low and medium speeds when employing the variable bus voltage strategy.
