Applying Partial PAM Method Suitable for Robot Motor Drive
PWM control is used in small brushless motors for driving robots, but there are problems with increased iron loss and motor heat generation. Here, we focus on the inverter carrier frequency (hereinafter fc) and dead time as factors related to motor iron loss, and examine their relationship with motor loss (temperature rise). As a result, motor losses and temperature rise were 10 W/40 °c, 20 W/52°C, when driven by inverter applied voltage 12 V/PWM 100% and 48 V/25%. Based on these evaluation results, we will explain the usefulness of boost circuits and a design example of a PAM boost system.
