A Dual Three-Phase LLC Resonant Converter With Phase Shedding Strategy for High Power Application

Dual three-phase LLC converter can handle higher power than three-phase LLC converter. However, poor light load efficiency and limited voltage gain restrict its application. This article introduces a reconfigurable dual three-phase LLC resonant converter with phases shedding strategy for high power application. The number of active phases decreases as the charging power diminishes. Additionally, operating the converter in a half-bridge mode allows for achieving ultra-low output voltage. Thus, light load efficiency will be improved, and voltage gain range will be extended. Compared with existing methods, the proposed strategy does not require additional devices. And no significant voltage overshoot during mode switching. A 30kW platform was developed to validate proposed scheme.
