A Performance Analysis of a 12-Slot 10-Pole Concentrated Winding Induction Motor with Wave-Winding Rotor for Loss Reduction

This study investigates loss reduction in induction motors (IMs) by employing stator fractional-slot concen-trated winding (FSCW) configurations. The FSCW configurations can contribute to reducing copper loss. However, sta-tor FSCW configurations cannot drive IMs with squirrel-cage winding rotors. To address this issue, a rotor wave winding configuration has been proposed for FSCW IMs. The rotor configuration has achieved an adequate drive-torque and line-start capability. This paper numerically compares the losses between the proposed FSCW and conventional IMs. The loss reduction is verified experimentally.
