A Proposal of a New Temperature Rise Test Method for Filter Reactors – Middle-Frequency Test –
AC filters combine a capacitor and reactor to reduce or block harmonic currents in AC systems. Therefore, harmonic currents flow through the filter reactor. The clause on filter reactors in IEC 60076-6 [1] specifies that the scope of application is to design dry-type air-core reactors. For the temperature rise test, it is determined that the test be carried out under the equivalent current at a power frequency, which supplies the total loss of the reactor. This paper examines the issues in adapting the tests specified in the standard for iron-core reactors, which use two reactors with different design concepts. In addition, a new temperature rise test method named the middle-frequency test is proposed to solve the problem. Then, the usefulness of the test method is confirmed.
