Deterioration Behaviours of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber in $\mathrm{C}_{5}\mathrm{F}_{10}\mathrm{O}/\mathrm{N}_{2}$ Insulated Switchgear

CsFlOO stands out as a candidate for an eco-friendly insulating medium in the development of gas insulated switchgear (GIS), yet its compatibility with the GIS's sealing materials remains largely unexplored, thereby impeding its wider application in the future power system. This study investigates the long-term coexistence of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with CSFlOO, examining how their interaction affects NBR's integrity and mechanical performance. Employing thermal accelerated aging tests in a CSFlOO/N2 atmosphere, the study scrutinizes the effects on NBR's mechanical properties, surface characteristics, and elemental composition. The experimental outcomes reveal that NBR's surface polymers are susceptible to a slow chemical interaction with CSFIOO when in direct contact. This interaction not only degrades the surface's elasticity but also leads to the loss of additives within the NBR, culminating in a reduced compression modulus and a compromised sealing performance. These observations underscore the limited compatibility between NBR and CSFlOO, highlighting the necessity for protective strategies to safeguard the sealing rings in CsFloO-based GIS applications. Abstract

CSFlOO, nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), compatibility, sealing performance, deterioration.
