Design and Analysis of In-Wheel Flux Reversal Motor for Compact EV
A flux reversal (FR) motor is a type of doubly salient permanent magnet (PM) motor in which permanent magnets are placed in the stator. However, unlike conventional doubly salient PM motors, its flux linkage variation is bipolar. Therefore, the FR motor is expected to have similar performance to conventional PM motors that have permanent magnets in the rotor. This paper describes the design and analysis of FR motors for a compact electric vehicle with in-wheel switched reluctance (SR) motors. The designed FR motor exhibits a wider speed – torque range than the previous SR motors.
