Standalone Testing Method of Synchronous Reluctance Motor for Determining Operating Characteristics
In the pursuit of realizing a decarbonized society, there is a demand for higher efficiency in industrial electric motors, including large-sized motors. Permanent magnet motors are the most efficient for this purpose. However, their adoption in large-sized motors can be challenging due to the availability and cost of rare earth materials used. Therefore, synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs), which do not use permanent magnets in the rotor and are more efficient than the widely used induction motors, are gaining attention. However, to determine the operating characteristics of SynRM, an actual load test is necessary. For large-sized SynRM, it is anticipated that the implementation of the test will be difficult as the test facilities become large-scale. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to determine the operating characteristics of SynRM with a standalone test and reports the evaluation results of proposed method.
