WPT Coil Position for Minimizing SOC Fluctuations in Battery-Powered Trains
The long charging time of batteries is a significant constraint, which prevents the adoption of battery-powered trains. Wireless power transfer (WPT), with ongoing technological advancements in dynamic charging, can provide a solution to this problem. WPT is expected to prevent an increase in installation costs by strategically laying coils in appropriate sections. Through driving simulations, this study revealed the transmission power and coil installation distances required for suppressing SOC fluctuations in railway systems. This study demonstrates the benefits of providing power in steep gradient sections, contrasting with previous research that focused solely on power supply in areas around stations.
