Investigation of Reducing Magnet Amount in Traction Motors with Aluminum Windings
A comparison of the environmental impact of five automotive motors (PMSM with copper windings, PMSM with aluminum windings, Synchronous Reluctance Motor, Permanent Magnet assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor and Induction Motor) during manufacturing and driving is performed based on Life Cycle Assessment. For aluminum, primary ingot and recycled material are compared. FEA and energy consumption calculation results show the predominance of PMSM with aluminum windings.
