A Seamless Operation of Bidirectional Battery Charger for Electric Vehicles with Power Quality Compensator

This paper deals with a seamless operation between grid-to-vehicle(G2V), vehicle-to-grid(V2G), and no charging-discharging operation of the bidirectional battery charger (BBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) with power quality compensator in single-phase three-wire distribution feeders. The basic principle of the seamless control of the BBC is discussed. Then, this paper demonstrates that the previously proposed constant DC-capacitor voltage-control (CDCVC)-based strategy achieves the seamless operation of the BBC between battery-charging, battery-discharging, and no battery charging-discharging operations. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that balanced and sinusoidal source currents with a unity power factor are obtained achieving the seamless operation of the BBC.
