Two-Level Utilization of LNG Cold Energy for Port-Multi Energy Microgrid Management

Over the past decades, a number of different methods have been tried to achieve the efficient use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energy. In a review of the current approaches and a recommendations for the cascade utilization principle, a two-level utilization of LNG cold energy for port multi-energy microgrid (MEMG) energy management is proposed, aiming to minimize the total operating cost. Firstly, considering the flexibility potential of cold energy utilization of LNG across each cooling temperature zone, a two-level cascade cold energy utilization model of electricity generation and direct cooling is established. Secondly, LNG cold energy utilization model is integrated into the port MEMG energy management model with coordination of other energy resources, aiming to realize economic operation. Finally, through the case study, the optimization results verify that the proposed energy management model considering the cold energy cascade utilization can reduce the operating cost, enhance the energy supply flexibility and foster sustainable energy practices within the port infrastructure.
