Equivalent Two-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Axial Flux Induction Motor with Double Stator and Single Rotor

In this article, a new type of double-stator single-rotor axial flux induction motor is proposed, which can eliminate magnetic yoke from the rotor core to improve torque density and axial compactness. In addition to reducing the main flux loop and enhancing core utilization, the new electromagnetic topology offers a notable advantage in this regard. The three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis is a time-consuming process that requires a more sophisticated computer configuration. This article employs a 2D-LMMA (Linear Motor Modeling Approach) to examine the impact of various parameters on the performance of a double-stator single-rotor axial flux induction motor (DSSR-AFIM). Consequently, the optimal parameter direction for axial flux induction motors can be determined indirectly, which streamlines the motor design process. Finally, a comparison was conducted between the output characteristics of single-stator single-rotor axial flux induction motor (SSSR-AFIM) and DSSR-AFIM. The latter were found to perform better due to their higher torque output and torque-to-current ratios.
