Optimizing Journey Time of Electric Vehicles During Long-Distance Highway Trips
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are increasingly recognized as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuel-based transportation, offering environmental benefits and lower operating costs. Despite their growing adoption, EVs face challenges like limited range and insufficient charging infrastructure, specifically during long-distance trips. This study investigates both infrastructure and non-infrastructure based approaches to optimize total journey time for long-distance EV travel. Using simulations, the study evaluates the effectiveness of proposed scheduling methods and concludes that infrastructure-based approaches, leveraging historical data for predicting future waiting times, notably enhances travel efficiency. These findings underscore the potential for enhancing EV travel, fostering wider adoption, and promoting environmental sustainability.
