LED Care tools for Cancer Treatment: an Overview
- Photodynamic therapy has been used for a long time as an anti-tumor therapy method. Agents employed in PDT as photosensitizers are used along this process in treating various forms of cancerous tissue. It has come to be appreciated that light is a potent tool in managing sickness. New PDT techniques have been developed since some specific dyes with light illumination in the early of century. PDT involved a therapy where photosensitizer agents along with energy to destroy the activated tumor cells were also used. While photodynamic therapy is safer it has little hazard and minimal adverse reaction to radiation or chemotherapy. Photosensitizer’s agents can be used to diagnose the malignancy. These methods are therefore known as photodynamic diagnostics. This review provides a brief of the therapeutic measures and clinical utilization of PDT in cancer treatment. PDT can also be used in combination with other forms of therapies such as immunotherapy, radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery since these have the potential to enhance tumor killing.
