Design and Optimization of Magnetizer for Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor with Halbach Array
The intense advancements in aerospace, industrial automation, and marine applications have underscored the need for compact, high-power density, and intensively efficient motors. This study addresses the impact of rotor yoke thickness on torque production by exploring distinct Halbach Array (HA) permanent magnet configuration in Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) motor. Based on finite-element analysis (FEA), a comparative study between three different HA configuration is carried out to nominate the model having high torque. Although the unique magnetic orientation in each magnet segment of HA can enhance torque utilizing less rotor yoke thickness, the traditional manufacturing technique is not suitable for mass production. Therefore, to overcome this issue, a novel magnetizer consisting of magnetizing teeth including coil placed in a slot is designed. This innovative approach provides a cost-effective and efficient solution for commercialization of HA permanent magnet.
