Research on the Optimal Allocation of Pumped Storage Capacity in Qinghai Region Considering Sequential Development

As China accelerates efforts to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, pumped storage power stations are becoming essential for balancing renewable energy and improving power system flexibility. This paper presents an innovative method for optimizing the capacity of pumped storage stations in Qinghai. The model uses a sequential development approach that links station development and commissioning with changing load demands and renewable energy output. By optimizing capacity allocation over time, this method increases the efficiency of pumped storage, reduces wind and solar curtailment, and fills gaps in current research that overlook dynamic development. This study offers valuable insights for China's renewable energy planning and the strategic deployment of pumped storage stations.
