A Practical Corrective Switching Algorithm with Full-Topology Model of Power Systems

Corrective switching is one of the most effective mitigation strategies to resolve overloads and voltage violations. In this paper, a robust and versatile algorithm is proposed to determine the line switching and busbar switching actions with the full topology model of power systems, where detailed node-breaker configurations are included. The line switching and busbar switching actions are implemented via the selected operations of breakers and switches within a substation model. The topology processor is then performed to build a bus-branch model for the corrective switching solution. The proposed algorithm utilizes a screening technique to select the switching actions, and the AC power flow solution to validate the consequence of the network topology changes. In the proposed algorithm, the evolutionary strategy (ES) method is applied to solve the corrective switching, which is modeled as a multiple integer optimization problem. Simulation results of a test case verify that the proposed algorithm can effectively determine the switching actions necessary to resolve the overloads and voltage violations.
