Technological innovations and Potential Adaptation Strategies for Agriculture in developing countries; A Case study of Nigeria

Agriculture remains the pillar of the economies of many developing countries, dictating their labour utilization, food security, and general economic stability. However, the productivity of their agriculture is threatened by climate change, population growth, coupled with their continued use of inefficient farming practices. This paper explores emerging agricultural technologies such as robotics, GPS Technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and block chain technology, as well as innovative farming systems such as precision farming, vertical farming, smart farming, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, and Aeroponics. The review indicates that while technological advancements can revolutionize agriculture in developing countries like Nigeria, various challenges hinder its’ adoption including physical, societal and economic constraints. The potential strategies for increased adoption identified include stronger policy frameworks that address skill gap, digital inclusion, access to finance, among other critical factors.
