Cassava Extract for Steel Corrosion Inhibition in Acidic Conditions: An Environmentally Sustainable Solution for Corrosion Control
Recently, the search for an environmentally benign corrosion inhibition method has drawn much attention due to the environmentally and health-threatening nature of most conventional inhibitors. In this work, cassava extract was researched as a green inhibitor of aluminum corrosion in 1 M HCl medium. The inhibition performance of CE was studied using electrochemical techniques such as OCP and LSV in a wide concentration range from 0.2 to 0.8 g/L. It was reflected that the CE effectively retarded the corrosion rate; the maximum inhibition efficiency was at 0.8 g/L, while corrosion rates fell to 0.630 mm/yr. Polarization resistance increased, indicating the better formation of a protective film. The optical micrographs also revealed smoother aluminum surfaces treated with the CE, confirming the electrochemical results. The present work establishes cassava extract as a green, biodegradable, and effective corrosion inhibitor of aluminum with very promising industrial applications in acid environments.
