Leveraging Iot For Sustainable Development In Sub-Saharan Africa: Opportunities And Barriers
The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming numerous industries worldwide and creating new opportunities for long-term, sustainable growth. This paper looks at the role of IoT in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with a focus on how it could help with significant problems and promote sustainable development. The study examines Internet of Things applications in several key domains, including as infrastructure, urban planning, economic development, education, and environmental management. It also enumerates Nigeria's IoT implementation challenges, which are indicative of more significant regional issues. Emerging concepts are studied, including the integration of IoT with artificial intelligence (AI), edge computing, low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) and circular economy principles, to highlight future potential for IoT in supporting sustainable development.
