Significant Effects of Nano-Lubrication Mechanism on Milling Process: An Overview

With the need for efficient and effective manufacturing of products, this review explores the influence of nano-lubrication on various machining processes, including milling, drilling, grinding, and turning. In contrast to traditional cutting fluids, nano-lubricants, which combine traditional and mixed cutting fluids with various additives, have better lubrication and cooling properties. The effectiveness of nano-lubricants is contingent upon several factors, such as pressure, flow rate, and nanoparticle volume fraction. In the machining process, the optimisation of nanofluids necessitates the identification of specific pressure, flow rate, and nanoparticle concentration. Notably, a nanoparticle concentration ranging from 0.25% to 0.6% is the most commonly recommended range, offering optimal performance in various machining operations. This concentration range is not only practical but also economically viable. Combining the benefits of conventional nano-lubricants and the base fluids, the hybrid nano-lubricants have demonstrated superior effects to their traditional counterparts. These hybrid lubricants exhibit enhanced lubrication and cooling properties, contributing to improved machining outcomes. Nano-lubricants offer enhanced lubrication and cooling capabilities, mainly when employed in the milling, drilling, grinding, and turning operations. By optimising the parameters and utilising hybrid formulations, manufacturers can leverage the advantages of nano-lubrication to improve machining efficiency and productivity.
