Research on Signaling Security Analysis of 5G Core Roaming Network
As a pioneering form of mobile communication technology, the 5 G core (5 GC) network roaming function is of paramount importance in ensuring the optimal utilization of network resources and preventing the unnecessary replication of infrastructure. However, as 5GC network roaming is being promoted commercially, the issue of signaling security is becoming increasingly prominent. This paper presents an analysis of the network architecture, inter-network interfaces, and roaming routing mechanism of 5GC network roaming, with a particular focus on the potential network signaling security risks associated with the Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP) and (hNRF) for 5GC network roaming. Such incidents include the leakage of sensitive information and the occurrence of signaling fraud. Furthermore, it is recommended that the combined Category 1 (CAT1), Category 2 (CAT2), and Category 3 (CAT3) be used for messages of different services, different interfaces, different service types, and different operations in the 5GC network in order to migrate risks and enhance the resilience of the communication network security.
