Empirical Analysis of the Effect of Shear Stress with Time for Different Tyre Types

1) Tyre blowouts are usually experienced on the road with concomitant stresses experienced. These tyre bursts have stresses such as shear stress, radial stress and circumferential stress for which empirical analysis was carried out to determine the relationship between these variables to the intent of establishing proper functionality and use of tyres. The methodology deployed includes the use of d’Alembert principle in the resolution of forces to establish relationship amongst them; and the MATLAB, in ensuring analysis of stresses. The Nigeria scenario is that of roads ‘riddled’ with potholes, which has made this paper germane as regards the stresses undergone by the tyre. It is recommended therefore that research be intensified to encourage in - depth study on tyre blowouts/bursts in times such as these. Tyre companies/private enterprises should be encouraged to partner with research institutions as regards tyre study with a view to mitigate the problem of high resultant stress leading to tyre burst.
