Evaluating Palm Kernel Extract as a Green Inhibitor for Copper Corrosion in Acidic Environments: Mechanistic Insights and Efficiency Analysis

Due to the fact that most of the traditional inhibitors are harmful to the environment and human health, recently much research has focused on finding an ecologically friendly technique for corrosion inhibition. The present study is aimed at investigating the use of palm kernel extract as a green inhibitor of aluminium corrosion in 1 M HCl medium. Utilizing electrochemical approaches such as OCP and LSV, inhibitive performance was understood within a wide range from 0.2 to 0.8 g/L CE. The maximum inhibition efficiency was found to be 0.8 g/L, and the corrosion rate became 0.675 mm/yr, indicating that the PO had successfully retarded the rate of corrosion. Furthermore, increased polarisation resistance suggests improved protective film generation. The optical micrographs indeed confirm the electrochemical results, showing smoother aluminium surfaces treated with the PO.
