Impedance Matching of a Wideband Rectenna for Energy Harvesting
This paper presents the design and implementation of a rectenna for energy harvesting using radio frequency between the range of 1GHz - 3GHz. A wideband antenna of range of 1GHz -3GHz was designed, simulated, and optimized using Ansys High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) simulation software, implemented using Flame Retardant-4 (FR4) substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4, and tangent of 0.0002. A full-wave voltage doubler rectifier was designed using Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS) simulation software with a High Surface Mount Microwave Schottky Detector Devices (HSMS-2862) Schottky diode. An impedance matching was designed to match the antenna impedance of 50Ω with the rectifier impedance for optimal power transfer. The simulated and measured return loss (S11) results of the antenna show a good return loss, i.e. S11<-10dB. The simulated and measured result of the return loss of the rectifier rectenna shows S11<-10dB at 900MHz, 1100MHz, 1450MHz, and 1850MHz.
