An Assessment of the Impacts of Shifting to Renewable Energy Systems on Policies and Economics in Nigeria: A Solution For Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7
The Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) significantly advances Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 by strengthening power access, economic growth, and social equity. This study employs a doctrinal research method, focusing on the theoretical framework of Transition Theory, to assess the NEP’s impacts. Key findings highlight the role of the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy (NREEEP) in facilitating renewable energy adoption through incentives and regulatory support. The legal framework, including the EPSRA and REMP, is examined for its effectiveness. Discussions reveal increased rural electrification, job creation, and foreign investment. However, challenges such as grid integration, socio-political resistance, and financial constraints persist. Recommendations include continuous policy refinement, investment in advanced technologies, and fostering international collaboration.
