Coconut Extract as an Eco-Friendly Inhibitor for Aluminum Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid: A Study on Corrosion Resistance and Surface Interaction
Recently, the search for environmentally benign corrosion inhibition methods has commanded much attention due to the environmentally and health-threatening nature of most conventional inhibitors. In this work, the Coconut extract was researched as a green inhibitor of aluminum corrosion in 1 M HCl medium. The inhibition performance of CO was studied using electrochemical techniques like OCP and LSV in an extensive concentration range from 0.2 to 0.8 g/L. It was reflected that the CO effectively retarded the corrosion rate; the maximum inhibition efficiency was at 0.8 g/L, while corrosion rates fell to 0.721 mm/yr. Polarization resistance increased, indicating the better formation of a protective film. The same result was confirmed by optical micrographs of smoother aluminum surfaces treated with the CO. The present work establishes coconut extract as a green, biodegradable, and effective corrosion inhibitor of aluminum with very promising industrial application in acid environments.
