Exploring Rice Husk Extract for Corrosion Inhibition of Aluminum in Acidic Media: Mechanistic and Efficacy Assessment
Considering most traditional inhibitors are harmful to the environment and human health, there has been a lot of research recently focused on finding an ecologically friendly corrosion inhibition technique. This study investigated rice extract as a green corrosion inhibitor for aluminium in a 1 M HCl medium. Using electrochemical methods like OCP and LSV, the inhibitory performance of RE was investigated at a broad concentration range of 0.2 to 0.8 g/L. The maximal inhibition efficiency was 0.8 g/L, and corrosion rates decreased to 0.630 mm/yr, indicating that the RE successfully slowed the rate of corrosion. Increased polarisation resistance suggests improved protective film generation. The electrochemical results were confirmed by the optical micrographs, which also showed smoother aluminium surfaces treated with the RE.
