Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum in Saline Media with Azifast Drug as an Inhibitor: Electrochemical and Surface Analysis
This work describes the inhibition performance of an antibacterial drug, Azifast, against corrosion of the aluminum alloy AA6063 in 1 M hydrochloric acid, using an electrochemical and optical study. The electrochemical tests are conducted by measuring OCP and LSV on different concentrations of Azifast such as 0.2 to 0.8 g/L. The results indicated that Azifast belongs to a mixed type of inhibitor. It decreased the values of Jcorr, CR, and increased PR by forming a protective film on the aluminum surface. The same was confirmed by optical microscopy, which showed smoother surface morphology with fewer pits or irregularities in inhibited samples. These results demonstrate the potential of Azifast as an environmentally friendly inhibitor of corrosion in industrial uses for aluminum protection in aggressive acidic media.
