EFETIVIDADE DOS DIRETORES NA GARANTIA DA APRENDIZAGEM: UM ESTUDO NOS ANOS INICIAIS DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL COM BASE NOS RESULTADOS DO IDEB E AS RESPOSTAS DO QUESTIONÁRIO DO SAEB/2019

This research investigates the relationship between school principal experience and student performance on the 2019 Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) for 5th-grade classes in Brazil. The analysis is based on responses to the 2019 SAEB questionnaire. Findings indicate that while prior teaching experience increases the likelihood of becoming a school principal, there is no conclusive evidence that this experience guarantees student learning. However, the time dedicated by the principal to meetings with teachers was found to be statistically favorable to improving student performance. Additionally, the studies revealed that school principals generally have more experience as teachers than as principals, which may positively influence their understanding of student needs
