Determination of the Compressive Strength Variability in Cementitious Matrices Incorporated With Charcoal Residues

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the technical feasibility of incorporating charcoal residue (RCV) as a partial replacement for fine sand in cementitious matrices, seeking to mitigate resource scarcity and repurpose an agro-industrial byproduct widely available in Brazil. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework is based on sustainability in construction, waste reuse, and normative criteria for the mechanical strength of cementitious composites. Method: The methodology involved axial compressive strength tests on mortars with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% RCV substitution, following Brazilian technical standards, along with variance analysis (ANOVA) to assess the statistical significance of the results. Results and Discussion: The tests showed that all compositions met the minimum strength requirement of 20 MPa, although significant variability was identified for different substitution levels and curing ages (7, 28, and 60 days), with no significant interaction at the 5% probability level. Research Implications: The research highlights the need for rigorous production control and experimental validation to ensure the mechanical performance of materials. Its implications include the potential development of new sustainable cementitious composites aligned with environmental and regulatory requirements. Originality/Value: The study's originality lies in the structured application of RCV in cementitious matrices, demonstrating its technical and environmental potential for the construction industry, fostering more sustainable and economically viable solutions.
