Optimization of SRG Comprehensive Performance Based on Two-Step Commutation

Under stable voltage and constant power output, the control parameters, namely the turn-ON angle and turn-OFF angle of the traditional single-phase commutation mode, are mutually constrained, thereby limiting the comprehensive performance enhancement of switched reluctance generator (SRG). To address this issue, this paper adopts a two-step commutation method. This method involves adding a zero-voltage freewheeling process based on single-step commutation and introducing a new control parameter, the freewheeling angle, to achieve the decoupling of the turn-ON and turn-OFF angles. Consequently, this approach further enhances the machine performance and voltage quality of SRG. The systematic analysis of the influence of freewheeling angle variation on each performance index is presented, leading to the proposal of an optimal freewheeling angle aimed at minimizing voltage ripple. Moreover, an analytical formula for the optimal freewheeling angle is derived. Finally, the accuracy of the analytical optimal freewheeling angle value is validated through simulation and experimentation.
