A New Control Method and Power Response of Power Compensator with Low Switching Frequency

This paper proposes a source-side active current equalization method for a power compensator utilizing a single-phase back-to-back converter with a switching frequency of 600 Hz. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing it to the conventional load-side current compensation method, which uses load-side current as input. Through simulations and experiments, the responsiveness is compared by varying the single-phase load in the back-to-back converter system. Also, the performance of the source-side active current equalization method is verified by measuring both active and reactive power in the steady state. The proposed method shows a significant improvement in the three-phase current unbalance factor, with the unbalance factor of the conventional load-side current compensation method being 2.1 % and the proposed source-side active current equalization method at 0.6%.
