Pichação, violência e contracultura

This essay proposes a reflection on tagging, observing it as an urban phenomenon linked to self expression or to one's reality. Taggers are, majorly, socially judged and this practice is seen as a “depredation of public space”. When it is compared to graffiti’s illustration or muralism, the rejection of tagging is evident. It seems necessary to take a closer look at the possible causes for its exclusion from Brazilian culture, specifically exploring the perspective of the State violence and how it impacts daily life.
