Early predictors of obesity in adolescent girls with menstrual disorders

Objective. To identify early predictors of obesity and onset of body mass index (BMI) elevation in overweight adolescent girls with menstrual disorders. Patients and methods. The history of the first year of life of 89 girls aged 11–17 years with menstrual disorders was examined, including the characteristics of maternal pregnancy, birth weight, breastfeeding patterns, and weight gain during infancy. Results. Early predictors of obesity in adolescent girls with menstrual disorders include obesity in one or both parents, a short period of breastfeeding, an early increase in BMI in the second half of infancy with a persistent rate of BMI gain until puberty, and concomitant infectious morbidity indicating weakened immunity. Conclusion. The obtained data allow us to reconsider the time of initiating the preventive and rehabilitative treatment in children with risk factors for metabolic disorders. Key words: adolescent girls, obesity, predictors, menstrual disorders
