ART RESIDENCIES BASED ON CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES: RECONSTRUCTION OR PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE?

An art residency as a form of sociocultural activity can take various forms and be created based on different material objects. As an option, a building for an art residency can be designed and constructed specifically for the purposes and tasks of the institution. This article examines a number of specific cases where an art residency is established based on architectural cultural heritage monuments in Russia and abroad. The paper also provides descriptions of forms of preserving cultural architectural heritage, which could hypothetically be implemented in the practice of creating art residencies based on cultural and architectural monuments. The scientific novelty of this material, in our opinion, lies in the attempt to build interdisciplinary links to describe sociocultural processes and transformations directly connected to the functioning of art residencies, as well as to describe the processes of preserving cultural architectural monuments in the form of art residencies through concrete and hypothetical examples. The author concludes that creating art residencies based on historical cultural architectural monuments, when certain rules are followed, is a valuable and fruitful practice.
