At the request of general P. Kh. Grabbe: the opening of the diocese of Stavropol on January 1, 1843
The article is devoted to the stay of general P. Kh. Grabbe (1789–1875) in the Caucasus as the head of the Caucasus Governorate from 1838 to 1842. In most studies on the Caucasian War, the general's activity during this period is limited only to his military field as commander of troops on the Caucasian line and in Black Sea region. However, his name is also associated with the transformations of the Caucasus Governorate, in particular, the Stavropol district. Owing to Grabbe, the history of Stavropol gained a new milestone and it was at the request of the general to Nicholas I and the Most Holy Synod to open a new diocese of Stavropol.
