Nuclear fission in plasma
Coulomb-catalyzed deuteron-induced fission reactions of low deuteron energy in dense plasmas are discussed. Cross section of $^{238}\mathrm{U}$-catalyzed deuteron-induced $^{235}\mathrm{U}$-fission reactions is deduced with the aid of the measured cross section of the usual neutron-induced fission of $^{236}\mathrm{Np}$ and using standard perturbation theory of quantum mechanics. The obtained cross section, which is expected to be vanishing according to recent knowledge, has finite value. An experimental proposal for the observation of the process is sketched, too, that may have also importance from the point of view of low-energy nuclear reactions.
