Situation Socioéconomique Et Environnementale De Référence Autour Des Sites De Restaurationdes Terres Dégradées Du Département De Ouallam Dans l’Ouest Du Niger

In the western part of Niger, initiatives to strengthen communuty resilence have been underway for several decades. The impacts of these actions, based on the restoration of degraded land, have been enough documented. However, the reference situation around the restored sites is less tackled. The current study, conducted in Ouallam department has been undertaking in order to establish the state of the biophysical and socioeconomic environment that prevailed before the actions of reinforcement of communal resilience centered on the restoration of degraded soil. The data collections is based in the maintenance carried from the populations of beneficiary and the observations field. The study served also at the documentary revue of the recuperated sites. The obtained results revealed that the socio-economic environment has been characterized by emphasized the vulnerability of the populations face to climate shocks. The alimentary insecurity, the malnutrition, the fall of purchasing power, are in a way or another the difficulties the local population face. From the environmental plan, we note the entrenchment and the gullying on the trays and in agricultural fields, the scouring of agricultural soils by quantities of rainwater that stream from the shallows, the covering sand plan such as the ponds. Ecosystem services, in particular those related to supply such as wood and fodder, are being disrupted. The present work has permitted to apprehend the initial situation in terms of socioeconomic and environmental aspects, enabling comparisonsto made between the before and after ecological restoration work.
