KASULI: Wadah pemberdayaan ekonomi penyandang Tuli di Yogyakarta
This article discusses the role of KASULI, "Kafe Susu Tuli" (Deaf Milk Café), as an innovation in habilitation and economic empowerment for the deaf community in Yogyakarta. KASULI was established in response to the challenges of employment accessibility for the deaf community by offering an inclusive space that supports economic independence while reducing social stigma. The café not only provides job opportunities but also serves as a platform for social education through sign language-based interactions and skills training. KASULI contributes to building self-confidence, entrepreneurial skills, and community awareness and expanding inclusive networks. A descriptive qualitative research method was employed to examine the impact of KASULI on economic empowerment and social inclusion. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the café's founder, Ahmad Robi, and direct observations at the site. The study’s findings indicate that KASULI has successfully raised public awareness about the potential of the deaf community, promoted local products, enhanced inter-community collaboration, and inspired similar initiatives in other regions. KASULI demonstrates that social and economic inclusion can be achieved through creative, collaborative, innovative, and sustainable approaches, making it a meaningful, relevant, and impactful symbol of social change.
